| Abstract : | Η εργασία αποτελεί μια εισαγωγή στις βασικές έννοιες που περικλείουν τα κρυπτονομίσματα. Στο πρώτο μέρος αναλύονται οι κατηγορίες με τις οποίες αυτά χωρίζονται, οι διαφορές που έχουν με τα παραστατικά νομίσματα, τι είναι wallet, τι είναι blockchain και πως λειτουργεί. Στο δεύτερο μέρος περιγράφονται κάποια βασικά κρυπτονομίσματα με μεγαλύτερη έμφαση στο Bitcoin (BTC), ενώ τέλος στο τρίτο κομμάτι της εργασίας, πραγματοποιείται μία εμπειρική έρευνα - σύγκριση των αποδόσεων των κρυπτονομισμάτων με τις αποδόσεις παραδοσιακών assets, με σκοπό να απαντηθεί το ερώτημα εάν αξίζει κανείς να ασχοληθεί με τα κρυπτονομίσματα και να επενδύσει σε αυτά.
This paper is an introduction to the cryptocurrencies. At the first part, we analyse the categories the cryptocurrencies are being divided, the differences between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies, what is wallet, what is the Blockchain and how it works. At the second part we describe the basic cryptocurrencies and mainly the Bitcoin (BTC), while at the third part, we conduct empirical research – comparing the returns of the cryptocurrencies with those of the traditional assets, in order to answer the question if is worth someone to get into the cryptocurrencies and invest in these.
